What We Teach
A ten-minute play about trust, compassion, and the distance between what we teach and how we live
A medical-school professor teaches future physicians that trust is fundamental to the relationship between provider and patient. Then a student challenges the professor to live up to that lesson.
What We Teach is a tightly focused classroom drama about pronouns, respect, and what happens when professional principles become personal. As professor and student confront each other, a seemingly simple exchange exposes a much larger question: Can we ask others to practice compassion that we are unwilling to practice ourselves?
At its heart, What We Teach is not about winning an argument. It is about what happens when trust is damaged between teacher and student, and how closely that rupture mirrors the trust clinicians ask patients to place in them every day.
